Classic rock band set to release new song featuring original vocalist: ‘It turned out fantastic’
Foreigner, the classic rock band known for hits like “Urgent” and “Juke Box Hero,” is gearing up for a special release to celebrate their 50th anniversary. The band will re-release their iconic 1981 album “4” next fall, featuring Dolby Atmos remixes of all the original tracks. Additionally, fans can expect a live concert recording from 1982 as well as a brand new song with the band’s original lead singer, Lou Gramm.
This new track, titled “Fool If You Love Him,” was an unfinished piece that the band discovered in their archives. Gramm had started writing the song during the ’80s, but it remained incomplete with only one verse and the chorus recorded. Bassist Jeff Pilson explained in an interview that they reached out to Gramm to finish and sing the song, and he eagerly agreed. Gramm completed the two remaining verses, added some cowbell, and breathed new life into the track, making it a perfect fit for the upcoming release of “4.”
This isn’t the first time that Gramm has collaborated with Foreigner post-departure. Last year, the band unveiled another new song, “Turning Back the Time,” a ’90s track that Gramm and guitarist Mick Jones had worked on together. The release of this song coincided with Foreigner’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, marking a significant moment in the band’s history.
Despite Gramm’s previous departures from the band in 1990 and 2002, he has maintained a strong connection with Foreigner over the years. He joined them for their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction and even made a surprise appearance at one of their concerts in Florida. While Gramm announced his retirement from touring, he will be making a special guest appearance with Foreigner in Latin America this spring, filling in for current lead singer Kelly Hansen. The band is thrilled to have him back, emphasizing his unwavering support and contribution to their music.
Looking ahead to their 50th anniversary in 2026, Gramm expressed his excitement to be part of Foreigner’s future endeavors, reflecting on the enduring legacy of the band he helped shape. As they continue to delight fans with new music and special performances, Foreigner remains a classic rock powerhouse that shows no signs of slowing down.
