Issues with Coachella: Some tickets being sold below face value, no sellout
Coachella, once a quick sellout desert rock festival, has faced challenges in recent years. What was once a well-loved event that extended its run to two weekends is now a mixed bag of genres, moving further away from its rock roots each year. Additionally, the festival has lost some of its allure among celebrities and influencers. Struggling for the second year in a row, promoters are finding it difficult to sell out tickets.
Normally, resellers and scalpers quickly snatch up tickets to sell at a premium. However, this year, the demand seems to have decreased. Some tickets and weekend passes are currently available below face value, although they still come with a hefty price tag of US$274, compared to the usual US$649 for GA tickets. Promoters and scalpers are both banking on the potential last-minute additions of Weezer and Ed Sheeran to help boost sales. The headliners for this year’s festival include Lady Gaga, Green Day, Post Malone, and Travis Scott.
In the music industry, the passing of Clem Burke, the drummer of Blondie, at the age of 70 is mourned. Burke was known for his impactful drumming style that contributed to the success of Blondie.
A notable aspect of Coachella this year is the lineup, which includes headlining acts like Lady Gaga, Green Day, Post Malone, and Travis Scott. However, despite the star-studded performances, the festival has struggled to sell out tickets for the second year in a row. On top of that, the resale market for tickets seems slow this year, with some tickets even selling below their face value.
In an effort to boost sales, last-minute additions of popular artists like Weezer and Ed Sheeran have been made to the lineup. These additions are hoped to generate more interest and enthusiasm among potential concert-goers. With a mix of established and up-and-coming artists, Coachella continues to be a renowned event in the music industry.
Despite these challenges, Coachella remains a significant event in the music world, drawing in fans from all over to experience a diverse range of performances. The evolving lineup and the ongoing efforts to attract attendees demonstrate the festival’s commitment to providing a memorable and engaging musical experience for all who attend.
