KATATONIA releases “Lilac”, reveals new album and lineup
Katatonia has returned with a fresh single, a new album, and a revamped lineup after the departure of founding guitarist Anders Nyström. The band’s current roster for 2025 consists of classic members vocalist and founder Jonas Renkse, bassist Niklas Sandin, drummer Daniel Moilanen, and guitarists Nico Elgstrand (formerly of Entombed) and Sebastian Svalland (formerly of In Mourning). Katatonia has officially announced their upcoming album, “Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State,” set to release on June 6 through Napalm Records. Alongside this announcement, the band revealed a sinister new single titled “Lilac.”
Lead vocalist Jonas Renkse expressed his enthusiasm for the album, stating, “We are proud and excited to announce our new album, Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State, coming out via Napalm Records on June 6. As always, these songs are the stories that thrive in the corner of the eye, obscured by the light but waiting to come alive in the dusk of our morbid existence. Please enjoy the first scent – ‘Lilac.'”
Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State was crafted under the production of Jonas Renkse, recorded by Lawrence Mackrory at NBS Audio and The City of Glass, mixed by Adam Noble, and mastered by Robin Schmidt at 24-96 Mastering. Fans can already pre-order the album and can also seize the opportunity to see Katatonia live at various festival appearances. The band’s tour schedule includes stops at events like Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium, Wacken Open Air in Germany, and tours across Europe from Spain to Norway to the UK.
The band’s tour itinerary is packed, guaranteeing fans the chance to witness their haunting melodies and somber atmospheres in person. With a diverse range of venues and locations, Katatonia promises an unforgettable live experience for metal enthusiasts across Europe. If last year’s live appearances were any indication, the band’s upcoming shows are not to be missed.
