Richie Faulkner of Judas Priest admits to occasional struggles playing guitar
Judas Priest’s guitarist Richie Faulkner recently shared his ongoing struggle with health issues that have affected his ability to play the guitar. After undergoing emergency heart surgery in 2021 due to an aorta rupture suffered on stage, Faulkner faced another health setback when he experienced a severe stroke. This stroke resulted in brain damage that has impacted his guitar playing skills, making it challenging for him to perform as he once did. Despite these difficulties, Faulkner has bravely returned to the band and continues touring with Judas Priest, even though he still encounters struggles during live performances.
Faulkner candidly admitted in a video interview with Premier Guitar that he now finds it hard to play certain guitar patterns that used to come naturally to him. He shared, “There’s stuff that I used to play — I used to think something and it would come out. And now I’m up there struggling to play a rhythm pattern. So that’s what I struggle with. That’s the collateral damage.” Despite these challenges, Faulkner remains determined to push through and deliver memorable performances for Judas Priest fans.
Judas Priest has upcoming festival and headlining dates scheduled in Europe and the UK from mid-April through late July. Fans eagerly anticipate seeing Faulkner back in action, showcasing his resilience and passion for music despite the obstacles he faces. By openly discussing his struggles, Faulkner not only sheds light on the reality of dealing with health setbacks as a musician but also serves as an inspiration to others facing similar challenges.
In the midst of Faulkner’s personal journey, other stories have been unfolding in the local community. Updates from Danville include a recent Saturday traffic stop by the police that led to the arrest of a man wanted for a murder in Springfield, MO.
