Nintendo has surprised fans by pricing their beloved game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, higher on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. Despite being an eight-year-old game, the price for Breath of the Wild on the new console will be more expensive than it was upon its initial release in 2017.

Nintendo, a renowned video game company, has a rich history of iconic franchises like Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. Their innovative hardware, such as the Wii and Nintendo Switch, has set a benchmark in the industry. The Nintendo Switch, in particular, revolutionized gaming by combining handheld and console experiences. This innovation has even influenced other companies like Steam.

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 promises to be a refined and powerful upgrade from its predecessor. Anticipated to release in June, it is expected to be a hot commodity. However, there’s a catch – the prices of games for the new console have seen a significant increase. While Nintendo initially released first-party games for $60, the pricing for games like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was set at $70 on the Switch. With the Switch 2, games are now priced at a steep $80, causing some fans to question the value proposition of Nintendo games.

Upon the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, along with new titles, several older games have been ported to the console. Iconic games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, both revered Nintendo titles, will also be available for the new console. Despite being almost a decade old, Breath of the Wild will cost $70, while Tears of the Kingdom will be priced at $80 on the Switch 2 – a $10 increase from their previous prices.

While these versions offer improvements in frame rates, resolution, HDR support, and additional features through the Nintendo Switch App, there is no confirmation that the Breath of the Wild DLC is included with the game. This means players may have to shell out a total of $90 for the full Breath of the Wild experience on the Switch 2. These added costs, coupled with the high price of the Nintendo Switch 2 console itself, may put a strain on gamers’ wallets.

Nintendo’s decision to elevate the pricing of their games, especially for an older title like Breath of the Wild, has left fans questioning the value proposition of the Switch 2. With the increased cost of games and consoles, players are deliberating whether Nintendo’s strategy aligns with their expectations and budget constraints.
