An iconic Australian rock band is preparing to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its debut album without its lead singer. Silverchair, the renowned ‘90s rock band, will be hosting a special event to honor their 1995 album “Frogstomp.” The celebration will take place at the Metro Social in Sydney on March 26, with the absence of frontman Daniel Johns being notable.

At the upcoming event, drummer Ben Gillies, bassist Chris Joannou, former Silverchair manager John Watson, and label executive John O’Donnell will grace the stage. Interestingly, the Metro Social is the very venue where Silverchair performed some of their initial gigs prior to their meteoric rise to stardom as reported by Billboard. Attendees can look forward to a Q&A session and a performance by Sydney-based alternative rock band The Buoys. Additionally, participants will receive a complimentary Frogstomp lanyard and laminate, and Silverchair vinyl records and limited edition band images will be available for purchase.

Since the band disbanded in 2011, Daniel Johns, the singer and guitarist for Silverchair, has distanced himself from the group. He did not contribute to the 2023 memoir “Love & Pain” written by Gillies and Joannou and reportedly had reservations about an “Australian Story” documentary utilizing Silverchair’s music without his approval. John’s Instagram post expressed his support for their narrative but also revealed his discomfort with promoting the book as he had not read its contents.

Silverchair rose to fame with the release of “Frogstomp” in 1995. The album made a significant impact by debuting at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart and peaking at No. 9 on the Billboard 200, marking the first instance of an Australian band on the chart since INXS. “Frogstomp,” known for hits such as “Tomorrow” and “Pure Massacre,” has garnered five ARIA Awards and has sold over 10 million copies globally.

Despite their split in 2011, Silverchair continues to enjoy popularity today, boasting an average of 2.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Tracks like “Miss You Love,” “Freak,” “Ana’s Song (Open Fire),” “Pure Massacre,” “Suicidal Dream,” “Straight Lines,” and “Anthem for the Year 2000” resonate with fans, contributing to the band’s enduring appeal. Having released their last album in 2007, Silverchair disbanded four years later, yet their music remains a staple for many listeners.
