VOWWS debut new single, ‘Hurt You’
The latest single from the Australian industrial rock duo VOWWS, now based in Los Angeles, has just been released, titled “Hurt You.” Signed to Out Of Line, VOWWS is one of the label’s recent additions that signal a shift towards a more rock/metal direction, departing from its electro roots.
Following their previous single “Blood’s On Fire,” featuring Foo Fighter’s Josh Freese on drums, “Hurt You” showcases a different side of the duo. VOWWS themselves describe the song as a unique take on a love song, capturing the essence of a memory of love that grows more potent with time. It embodies a sense of nostalgia and longing that deepens over the years, creating a warm and romantic feel akin to an old film reel from the past.
Over the past two years, the duo meticulously worked on a collection of songs before enlisting the expertise of Billy Howerdel from A Perfect Circle to help record and reimagine each track. This collaborative effort has significantly shaped the final product and added layers of complexity to their sound.
VOWWS has also lined up an exciting series of tour dates that include performances in various European countries such as Italy, Germany, Croatia, and the UK, among others. From supporting Jerry Cantrell to headlining their own shows, the duo is set to captivate audiences across borders with their unique blend of industrial rock.
Formed by Matthew “Matt” James Campbell and Arezo “Rizz” Khanjani, VOWWS originally hails from Sydney but has since relocated to Los Angeles to expand their musical horizons. Having met in the mid-2000s at the University of New England’s music program in Sydney, the duo’s musical journey has been a collaborative effort filled with experimentation and growth.
Their debut album, “The Great Sun” released in 2015, featured Gary Numan on the title track, while their second album “Under the World” was self-released in 2018. Collaborations with notable artists like Chino Moreno from Deftones and Kristina Esfandiari have further established VOWWS as a force to be reckoned with in the industrial rock scene.
With their recent signing to Out Of Line Music in January 2025 and the release of “Blood’s on Fire,” co-produced by Billy Howerdel with drums by Josh Freese, VOWWS continues to push the boundaries of their sound and craft. Their unique blend of industrial rock, electronic body music, electropop, new wave, and post-punk elements sets them apart as innovative artists in the music industry.
As VOWWS embarks on their latest musical journey with the release of “Hurt You” and a string of upcoming tour dates, their dedication to pushing artistic boundaries and delivering captivating performances solidifies their status as a dynamic and influential duo in the world of industrial rock. Fans can expect an unforgettable experience that showcases the evolution of VOWWS as they continue to leave a lasting impact on the music scene.
