Camden Garnett of Infernal Diatribe Talks About Maine Hardcore and Their Latest Music
Last month, Chris Linkovich, a member of Terror and Cruel Hand, contacted me to inform me that one of the bands signed to his label, Cheap Life Records, has just released new music. Infernal Diatribe, a band from Maine, whose hardcore music scene is often overlooked, showcased their chaotic metallic hardcore sound on their latest two-track release, “A Yearning Serenade / Ascending to Bliss,” mixed and recorded by Ryan Stinson of Apollyon and Gumskab.
Camden Garnett, the vocalist of Infernal Diatribe, shared some insights into the band’s progression in between their previous “Surging Violence” EP release and this latest offering. The goal with the new music was to refine their sound by incorporating elements of heavy music that resonate with each band member while creating a unique and explosive sound combining technicality with impactful grooves.
When asked about their sonic influences and the production process, Garnett revealed that the band draws inspiration from dark and aggressive bands like Turmoil, Buried Alive, and Skinless. They aimed to enhance the raw energy of their music while maintaining a polished, weighty sound, with Ryan Stinson’s help in the studio elevating the production value and overall impact of the tracks.
Regarding the lyrical content of “A Yearning Serenade / Ascending to Bliss,” Garnett explained that the songs continue the tradition of exploring personal struggles and real-life situations in their music, creating a dark yet beautiful narrative that reflects internal struggles and challenging emotions.
Delving into the band’s connection with Chris Linkovich, Garnett emphasized Linkovich’s pivotal role in Maine Hardcore, praising his dedication to the local scene through show bookings, attendance, and support for upcoming bands. Linkovich’s involvement has cemented his status as a vital figure in the Maine Hardcore community, shaping and uplifting the local scene with his tireless efforts.
Infernal Diatribe plans to release a full-length album after this two-track single, hinting at a continuous stream of new music in the future. Touring is also on the horizon for the band in 2025, affirming their commitment to sharing their music with audiences beyond their local scene.
In conclusion, the evolution and growth of Infernal Diatribe encapsulate a band dedicated to refining their sound, exploring personal themes, and expanding their reach within the hardcore music scene. With the support of influential figures like Chris Linkovich and a focused creative vision, Infernal Diatribe continues to make a mark in the Maine Hardcore community and beyond.
