Courtney Love plans to leave United States due to Donald Trump’s presidency
Courtney Love, the renowned rock star, has joined the trend of celebrities leaving the United States to live abroad due to their dissatisfaction with President Trump’s return to power. Love recently revealed her plans to obtain British citizenship in London within six months, expressing her delight at residing there. She described Trump’s presidency as “frightening” and compared the new atmosphere in Washington, D.C. to poison.
Love is not the only celebrity to flee the U.S. under Trump’s leadership. Comedian Rosie O’Donnell disclosed on TikTok that she and her child have relocated to Ireland until it feels safe to return to America. Similarly, Ellen Degeneres and her wife Portia De Rossi moved to the United Kingdom following the 47th President’s election. Singers Cher and Barbra Streisand have also contemplated leaving the country but have yet to do so.
Despite his influence on these departures, President Trump has shown no remorse for driving celebrities out. In fact, he commended a reporter for questioning why Ireland accepted O’Donnell during a press event. Love’s announcement of her residency change was made at an event hosted by the How to Academy earlier this month, where she also performed Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone.”
Having previously mentioned owning a home in London to a lifestyle blog, Love’s current residence is uncertain. Nevertheless, during a concert in London last year, she claimed to have been living in a cave in Birmingham for almost ten years. Notably, she remarked on her affinity for London’s lack of firearms, a stark contrast to the prevalent gun culture in the U.S.
Courtney Love’s decision to move to England reflects a broader trend of celebrities abandoning the U.S. political climate under Trump’s administration. Love, alongside other prominent figures such as Rosie O’Donnell and Ellen Degeneres, has opted for a change of scenery in response to what they perceive as contentious political circumstances in America. Their relocations underscore the significance of personal comfort and safety in determining where to reside, especially in today’s globalized world where individuals have the freedom to choose where to call home.
