Willie Nelson has unveiled his latest album, “Oh What A Beautiful World,” set to be released on April 25. This album marks his 77th solo studio album and 154th album overall. The focus of this new project is the songs of Rodney Crowell.

Rodney Crowell holds a special place in Nelson’s career as the latest addition to his legacy of albums dedicated to the work of a single songwriter. Both hailing from Texas, Nelson and Crowell’s paths have frequently crossed, with Crowell first hearing Nelson’s early songs on the radio and attending his concerts in Houston in the mid-60s.

This upcoming album showcases 12 songs written or co-written by Crowell throughout his career. It includes tracks from his early days like “Banks of the Old Bandera” and “Shame on the Moon,” a Bob Seger hit. Additionally, Nelson will add his personal touch to later hits like “What Kind of Love” and “Stuff That Works,” co-written with Guy Clark, a standout song from the iconic songwriter.

The first teaser track from the album, a collaboration between Nelson and Crowell titled “Oh What A Beautiful World,” sets the tone for this project. Originally featured as the closing song on Crowell’s 2014 album “Tarpaper Sky,” this track beautifully captures the essence of time passing by and highlights the human need to appreciate the beauty in every moment life has to offer.

With this album being released just in time for Nelson’s 92nd birthday, the production by long-time collaborator Buddy Cannon, along with a stellar ensemble of Nashville musicians, complements Nelson’s unmistakable voice. The depth and sincerity in Crowell’s songwriting, paired with Nelson’s emotive delivery, promise a captivating listening experience for fans and music enthusiasts alike.

From the melodic storytelling to the soulful interpretations, “Oh What A Beautiful World” encapsulates the enduring artistry and camaraderie between two legendary musicians. This album not only pays homage to Crowell’s remarkable songwriting skills but allows Nelson to infuse his unique style and perspective into these timeless compositions. With an eye on the past and an appreciation for life’s fleeting moments, Nelson and Crowell invite listeners on a musical journey that celebrates the magnificence of the world around us.
