A transgender musician faced harsh criticism for her performance at a Bernie Sanders rally, where she sang provocative and controversial lyrics. Laura Jane Grace, known as the lead singer and guitarist of punk band Against Me!, took the stage at a rally in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and performed a song titled “Your God (God’s D–k).”

The song’s lyrics included questioning the size and actions of God’s genitalia, with lines like, “Does your god have a big fat d–k? Cause it feels like he’s f–king me,” and “Does he chew c– like bubblegum and give b–wjobs like a vacuum?” These explicit and sacrilegious lyrics sparked outrage and condemnation from various critics.

Conservative social media activists and others expressed their disgust at the performance, calling it “pure evil” and “anti-Christian.” Some criticized the Democratic party for allowing such performances at their rallies, with one user stating, “God will not be mocked.” Even self-proclaimed Democrats expressed shame and disappointment in the choice of entertainment at the event.

Laura Jane Grace, who has a history of performing with provocative and explicit lyrics, has been a longtime supporter of Bernie Sanders. In a previous performance in 2020, she included controversial themes like burning crucifixes, white supremacy, and automatic weapons in her songs. Despite the backlash, Grace remains unapologetic about her music and her support for progressive politics.

Sanders, who is known for hosting town hall discussions on fighting oligarchy, attracted around 3,500 supporters to the rally in Wisconsin. The state, which flipped to the Republicans in the previous Presidential Election, continues to be a battleground for political ideologies. The controversy surrounding Grace’s performance at the rally serves as a reminder of the polarizing nature of politics and entertainment in today’s society.
