Mclusky Returns with First Album in 20 Years and New Video to Watch!
Mclusky, a renowned Welsh rock band, has made a triumphant return after a hiatus of 20 years with the release of their new album, “The World Is Still Here and So Are We.” Set to launch on May 9th through Ipecac, this album features a track titled “Way of the Exploding Dickhead,” which is accompanied by a compelling video directed by Remy Lamont that offers satirical commentary on self-improvement.
Andrew Falkous, one of the band members, sheds light on the track’s unique title, citing inspiration from a classic video game (The Way of the Exploding Fist for the ZX Spectrum) and linking the lyrics to the frenzy surrounding inflated ticket prices for distant band performances. According to him, “Way of the Exploding Dickhead” tells a modern tale devoid of moral undertones.
Mclusky’s current lineup includes Falkous along with Jack Egglestone on drums since 2003 and bassist Damien Sayell, who has been a part of the sporadic reunions of the band. The album’s press release highlights that “Way of the Exploding Dickhead” is featured as part of a double-sided single along with tracks like “Unpopular Parts of a Pig” and “The Digger You Deep,” both of which were released in another dual single back in 2023. All three songs are slated to appear on the upcoming album.
The band’s earlier album, “The Difference Between Me and You Is That I’m Not on Fire,” marked the conclusion of their initial phase in 2004. Following the split, they released a significant compilation album, “Mcluskyism,” while Falkous ventured into other influential projects like Future of the Left. Over the years, Falkous’s impact has resonated across British rock, post-hardcore, and postpunk genres. On occasion, he and different band members would perform under tweaked variations of the Mclusky name, such as Mclusky* and ‘Mclusky.’ Their first release in 19 years came in the form of a single in 2023, leading up to their decision to put out a full album.
Excitement is high for the upcoming release, showcasing Mclusky’s musical evolution through essential songs like “Way of the Exploding Dickhead” and others. The band’s witty press release humorously mentions the initial use of an asterisk in their name as a token of respect for former members but highlights a disregard for tradition in their latest endeavors.
As fans eagerly anticipate the launch of “The World Is Still Here and So Are We,” Mclusky’s comeback marks a celebration of their enduring musical legacy while introducing fresh vibrations to captivate audiences once more.
