Garbage has announced that their eighth studio album, Let All That We Imagine Be the Light, is set to be released on May 30th. Following their last album, No Gods No Masters from 2021, this new record was recorded at Red Razor Sounds in Los Angeles, Butch Vig’s studio Grunge Is Dead, and Shirley Manson’s bedroom. While new music is expected to drop soon, the band has given some insight into what fans can expect from the upcoming album.

Manson expressed her intentions for a more positive and uplifting approach to this record, noting, “Going into making this record, I was determined to find a more hopeful, uplifting world to immerse myself in.” She also explained that the title of the album, Let All That We Imagine Be the Light, encapsulates the overall essence of this new project. In times of darkness, she emphasized the importance of seeking out light, positivity, and beauty, almost framing it as a survival tactic.

From a technical standpoint, Vig shared details about the sound design and equipment used during the recording process. He mentioned the utilization of analogue synths to match the dystopian atmosphere prevalent during the album’s creation. Despite the chaos happening in the world, the band aimed to infuse the record with a sense of hope and empowerment, emphasizing that people hold the power to make a difference.

The process of creating Let All That We Imagine Be the Light involved starting with a blank slate, allowing the music to evolve naturally. However, given the current state of affairs globally, it was inevitable that some of these influences would seep into the songs. Nevertheless, the band wanted to ensure that the album carried a message of hope and light, encouraging listeners to recognize their own agency in shaping the world around them.

Fans eager to get their hands on the new album can pre-order Let All That We Imagine Be the Light. With Garbage’s blend of introspective lyricism and innovative soundscapes, this upcoming release promises to offer a unique and compelling listening experience for both new and longtime fans alike. Stay tuned for more updates as the album’s release date approaches.
