Swedish band THE DEAD AND LIVING releases new EP ‘DAMAGE’
Swedish rock band The Dead and Living, hailing from Karlstad, Sweden, is gearing up to release their new EP, ‘Damage,’ on February 28th. The band, consisting of five members, has an extensive touring history across Scandinavia and Europe, sharing stages with renowned acts like Deathstars, Chrome Division, and Marky Ramone’s Blitzkreig. Vocalist ‘Coroner’ shared insights into the inspiration behind their upcoming EP and what fans can expect from their latest musical offering.
The EP ‘Damage’ draws heavy inspiration from the visuals and themes of ‘A Journey to the End of Time’ by Melodysheep. Coroner delved into the profound realization of human insignificance in the grand scheme of the universe, as portrayed in the video’s representation of the universe’s vastness and the brevity of human existence. The EP contemplates existential themes, touching on concepts of faith, creation versus evolution, and the ultimate fate of our planet in the face of cosmic uncertainties, such as black holes and dark matter.
The EP’s two singles, ‘Damage’ and ‘Demons Till I’m Dead,’ explore cosmic and earthly themes, reflecting on universal perspectives and personal struggles. While ‘Damage’ delves into the mysteries beyond black holes and the fate of our world, ‘Demons Till I’m Dead’ delves into human relationships, challenges, and the complexities of earthly existence. The EP as a whole presents a varied narrative, inviting listeners to interpret its chaos through their own perspectives.
The response to the EP’s singles has been positive, with a notable increase in activity following the release of ‘Damage.’ The band acknowledges the departure from their previous sound and themes, aiming to evolve and challenge themselves creatively while avoiding stagnation. Despite facing challenges such as the impact of the global pandemic on their writing and recording process, The Dead and Living remain dedicated to exploring universal themes and pushing their boundaries musically.
The band’s journey back to the studio was marked by personal and external challenges, including losses, fatherhood, and logistical issues. Their guitarist’s contributions to the writing process and the introduction of a new producer and mixer added fresh perspectives to the EP. The recording process, conducted during the pandemic, presented unique challenges, but the band’s resilience and dedication to their craft shine through in the atmospheric production of the record.
As The Dead and Living prepare to release their ‘Damage’ EP, they look forward to reconnecting with their audience through live shows and sharing their new music with the world. The band’s commitment to evolution and exploration in their music ensures that each release is a unique and transformative experience for both the band and their listeners. Stay tuned for the release of ‘Damage’ on February 28th as The Dead and Living continue to captivate audiences with their distinctive sound and thought-provoking lyrics.
