Revival of 90s Phoenix band Jesus Chrysler Supercar
consin, would book shows because he enjoyed it.
With Collins’ departure in 1998, the band began to slow down shortly afterward and eventually ceased touring completely. In 1999, they realized it was time to call it quits. It wasn’t until 2022 when Steele and Collins, two friends living two separate lives, found themselves yearning to play music together again. Smith and Hickerson were immediately on board with the idea, and when Corman got wind of the plan, he didn’t hesitate to jump back into JCS.
Smith and Hickerson have been playing music together ever since the band fizzled out in 1999, but reuniting with Steele and Collins was an unexpected yet welcome development.
Steele, Collins, Corman, Smith, and Hickerson began rehearsing in April 2023. By the end of July, they had played what Steele describes as a “killer” show at a random bar in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. By the time Jesus Chrysler Superstore hit the Paradise Lounge in Phoenix for a surprise gig in August, things were starting to click.
So, why come back?
“Because how could we not?” answers Collins.
They’ve all put in plenty of work over the years in various projects, but there’s something about the energy that comes together when they play as JCS that none of them have been able to recreate.

They may be older, but they can still rock as hard as ever. Steele’s voice is as powerful as it ever was, and Collins is a monster on the drums. Add in Corman’s guitar work, Smith’s bass, and Hickerson’s second guitar, and Jesus Chrysler Supercar can once again compete with the Warrants still touring across the country.
They’re different guys now, surely, but the same spirit that led them to take on those gigs with Warrant all those years ago is roaring back. And who knows? Perhaps there’s a young band out there that they will be able to guide in the future.
After all, Steele and Collins are 25 years wiser and better at their craft. They looked back, and now they’re moving forward.
