Military humanoid robot now working as a DJ at San Francisco club
Robotic DJ Makes Waves at San Francisco Nightclub
A robot like no other took center stage at a recent event in San Francisco. The Phantom MK1, a humanoid robot created by Foundation Robotics Lab, showcased its skills as a DJ at a nightclub event celebrating 25 years of the 21st century. Despite typically being used for military operations, warehouse management, and manufacturing, the Phantom MK1 demonstrated a different side of robotics: entertainment.
The debut of the Phantom MK1 marked the first time this humanoid robot has been showcased in a public setting. With its sleek black design and precise movements, the robot captivated the audience at the event. The video footage shows the robot’s arms moving smoothly to the beat of the music, albeit with slightly offbeat fist pumps. Although the robot is primarily designed for military applications like aircraft maintenance and refueling, the nightclub performance highlighted its versatility and potential for entertainment purposes.
The Foundation Robotics Lab, the brains behind the Phantom MK1, recently acquired Boardwalk Robotics, a company known for its humanoid robot, Alex. By expanding its capabilities with the introduction of the Phantom MK1, Foundation Robotics Lab is stepping up its game in the robotics industry. Unlike its stationary predecessor, the Phantom MK1 is designed for portability and adaptability, weighing 175 pounds and standing 1.75 meters tall. Equipped with advanced processors, cameras, batteries, and sensors, the robot’s upper body serves as its operational hub, while its lower body features advanced actuators and balance systems for navigating various terrains.
The Foundation Robotics Lab has set ambitious manufacturing goals for the Phantom MK1, aiming to deliver 40 robots in 2025, 10,000 in 2026, and over 20,000 by 2027. With a target of more than $1 billion in recurring annual revenue, the company plans to use its profits to build a colony in Antarctica as a stepping stone towards future space colonization. By establishing outposts on the Moon, Mars, and beyond, the Foundation Robotics Lab is paving the way for innovative infrastructure both on Earth and in space.
The Phantom MK1’s debut at the San Francisco nightclub not only showcased its entertainment capabilities but also underscored the potential for humanoid robots in various industries beyond traditional military applications. With its sleek design, precise movements, and futuristic features, the Phantom MK1 represents a new era of robotics that goes beyond warfare to embrace creativity and entertainment.
