Metal Blade Records. The video for “The Howl” showcases the band’s unique blend of folk metal and storytelling, drawing listeners into a fantastical world created by bassist Sami Hinkka.

During the COVID lockdown, guitarist Markus Toivonen took on the challenge of exploring new ways to create music, leading to the birth of much of the content for “Winter Storm.” The album features a mix of powerful compositions, including the anthemic track “Fatherland,” penned by Hinkka. The addition of singer Pekka Montin’s melodic high notes on the previous album, “Thalassic,” set the stage for his stellar performance on “Winter Storm.” Hinkka’s fantasy narrative serves as the backdrop for Montin’s strong vocals, solidifying his place as a standout vocalist in ENSIFERUM’s history.

“The Howl” picks up where the “Fatherland” video left off, diving deeper into the story of a young shaman seeking justice for his people. Hinkka describes the song as quintessentially ENSIFERUM, with its catchy melodies, powerful vocals, and singalong chorus, making it a perfect fit for the band’s live performances.

This latest video release cements ENSIFERUM’s reputation as masters of storytelling through music, captivating audiences with their epic soundscapes and intricate narratives. Stay tuned for more from these Finnish folk metal icons as they continue to push boundaries and explore new musical horizons.
