Unforgettable Murals by Artist Dave Naydock in Pottsville and Beyond

Artist Dave Naydock is fondly remembered for his stunning murals found throughout Pottsville and beyond, even though he passed away 12 years ago. A talented muralist, Naydock’s work can be seen at iconic locations like D. G. Yuengling & Sons Brewery, the former Pottsville Hospital, Pottsville High School, and more.

One of Naydock’s most impressive pieces, a mural depicting the history of Reading Anthracite Company, is housed in the former P&RC&I building on Mahantongo Street. In addition, Naydock was commissioned in 2009 to paint a three-panel mural for the Antique Automobile Club of America museum in Hershey. His work on this project was so impressive that it was praised by the museum’s curator.

Throughout his career, Naydock painted a total of 175 murals, with 64 of them located in Pottsville. His remarkable talent and prolific portfolio left a lasting impact on the community. He was not only a gifted artist but also a founding member of the Local Artists Show and Sale as well as a board member of the Walk In Art Center in Schuylkill Haven.

Naydock’s unique artistic vision is evident in his diverse murals, such as the 1989 painting “Trip Through Time” at the Kempton Hotel in Berks County. This mural features historic figures, Hollywood icons, and glimpses of significant events like D-Day and Woodstock. Naydock’s dedication to his craft, including painting murals on his back like Michelangelo, earned him the nickname “The Sistine Naydock.”

Despite his passing, Naydock’s art continues to be admired by generations to come, serving as a testament to his talent and creativity.
