Sammy Hagar’s new song, “Encore, Thank You, Goodnight,” set for release on April 25, has a unique and surreal backstory originating from a dream involving Eddie Van Halen.

Recounting the dream in a recent interview, Hagar shared his experience, “About two months ago, I had this dream and Eddie came,” he explained. “He’s going, ‘Man, let’s write some music!’ I said, ‘Yeah, f**k it, man. Here, let’s go!'”

In the dream, Eddie showcased a harmonic slide guitar technique that inspired the duo to craft a song using the lick. Hagar didn’t forget the melody and composed the song upon waking. He incorporated the guitar lick Eddie showed him into the track, creating a unique blend inspired by the dream collaboration. This dream-inspired song features the musical talents of guitarist Joe Satriani, bassist Michael Anthony, and drummer Kenny Aronoff.

Reflecting on the collaborative process, Hagar expressed his appreciation for Satriani’s contribution, noting, “Joe was the perfect partner to help me shape the sound. He brought in that big, emotional, guitar-driven energy that feels like Eddie’s spirit but is entirely of Joe’s creation.”

Having fronted Van Halen for over a decade and sung on several chart-topping albums, Hagar shared a complicated history with the band. He departed Van Halen in 1996 amid tensions that escalated following a 2004 reunion. Despite this, Hagar and Eddie reconciled their differences before the guitarist’s passing in 2020.

“This song is my final bow to that part of my life,” Hagar stated. He emphasized that it serves as a heartfelt expression of gratitude and respect, showcasing a powerful guitar solo.

Following the song’s release, Hagar plans to launch a Las Vegas residency titled “Best of All Worlds” on April 30. The residency aims to celebrate his extensive musical career, incorporating his time with Van Halen and other ventures.

In summary, Sammy Hagar’s upcoming song “Encore, Thank You, Goodnight” bears a poignant significance, inspired by a dream collaboration with Eddie Van Halen. This musical journey reflects gratitude, respect, and a homage to his impactful past in the music industry.
