Instagram introduces new video editing app to compete with TikTok

Instagram has recently introduced a new video creation app called Edits, aiming to compete with the popular platform TikTok. The parent company Meta stated that this app would allow users to effortlessly create and edit videos on their smartphones, making it convenient to share content on various social platforms. TikTok has been under scrutiny in the US due to national security concerns, prompting discussions of a potential ban unless it is acquired by a non-Chinese entity. The deadline was extended by US President Donald Trump, giving TikTok more time to secure a buyer for its US operations.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding TikTok’s future, questions loom regarding the likelihood of reaching an acquisition agreement with the Chinese parent company, ByteDance. Previous negotiations failed after the announcement of global tariffs, including substantial taxes on China. In response to the evolving landscape of social media, Meta seized the opportunity by introducing Edits, a video creation app with powerful editing tools and insightful data-driven features.
