Dark Angel makes a comeback with their first new song in 34 years, “Extinction Level Event”
Dark Angel has made a triumphant return after 34 years with their latest song, “Extinction Level Event,” marking their first new music release since 1991’s Time Does Not Heal. Premiering on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal with Jose Mangin on April 10, the track is the lead single from Dark Angel’s upcoming album Extinction Level Event, set to be released later this year on Reversed Records. “Extinction Level Event” was written by guitarist Jim Durkin a decade ago, long before his untimely death in 2023 due to severe liver disease.
Drummer Gene Hoglan expressed his excitement about the new album, praising it for its musical, lyrical, and vocal elements. The entire band is thrilled about Dark Angel’s current state, with rave reviews pouring in from those who have already listened to the upcoming album. Paying homage to Durkin’s legacy, Hoglan described “Extinction Level Event” as a powerful representation of Dark Angel’s signature sound. Despite being penned a decade ago, the song still holds its own in today’s music landscape.
The album was recorded and mixed at Armoury Studios in Vancouver, helmed by producer and engineer Rob Shallcross and mixed by Mike Fraser. “Extinction Level Event” showcases the band’s trademark fast-paced and aggressive musical style, setting a high standard for their highly anticipated comeback.
Additionally, Dark Angel recently shared a music video for their latest single, “Lachryma.” This comes ahead of their upcoming album Skeletá, scheduled for release on April 25 via Loma Vista Recordings. The video features frontman Papa V Perpetua’s first full performance and adds to the excitement surrounding the band’s resurgence.
In another exciting release, Upstate New York veterans Brick-By-Brick have teased fans with a cover of Rob Zombie’s “Thunder Kiss 65,” taken from their forthcoming album Collapse. The album is due for release on April 25, with a release party set for April 26. The cover captures the essence of the original track while infusing it with the band’s unique style and energy.
German thrash metal pioneers Sodom are also gearing up for a new album, The Arsonist, scheduled to drop on June 27, 2025, via SPV/Steamhammer. To celebrate the announcement, the band has released a lyric video for the album’s debut single, “Trigger Discipline,” showcasing a raw and unfiltered sound that fans have come to love.
As the rock and metal scene continues to thrive, fans can look forward to a diverse range of new releases in the coming weeks. From established acts like Sodom and Ghost to up-and-coming bands like Brick-By-Brick, the music world is buzzing with anticipation for the next wave of heavy-hitting tracks and albums.
