Under the slogan “Sound of Chunhyang, Open the World,” the festival is set to take place from April 30 to May 6 at Gwanghanruwon and Yocheonbyeon in Namwon, Jeollabuk-do. The event promises to showcase the festival’s evolution from a local celebration to a global spectacle.
The 95th Chunhyangje Press Day provided a preview of the festival with programs like hanbok fashion shows and traditional Korean performances. Mayor Choi highlighted the festival’s modernization while maintaining its traditional roots, aiming to blend old and new elements seamlessly.
One of the major changes announced for this year’s festival is the introduction of the Chunhyang Selection Competition, which will precede the main event. Foreign participation has been expanded, allowing foreigners residing in Korea to join the competition, previously limited to pre-selected overseas candidates. The age limit has also been raised from under 26 to under 29 years old.
An exciting addition to this year’s festival is a vibrant canola flower field spanning over 33,000㎡ along the Yocheon Stream, enhancing the festival’s ambiance and beauty.
The 95th Chunhyang Festival boasts 153 programs, including traditional and modern performances, Korean music competitions, dance displays, and a hanbok fashion show. The festival aims to captivate attendees with a diverse range of cultural experiences, embracing both classic and contemporary art forms.
Additionally, the festival will feature a large-scale street parade, “Daedonggilnori,” showcasing scenes from the famous “Chunhyangjeon.” The event will also include food zones offering local delicacies and more than 100 new programs, catering to a wide range of interests.
With its rich history and commitment to preserving Korean cultural traditions, the Chunhyang Festival continues to evolve while staying true to its heritage.
