leave behind bad habits, but also to learn to love my past selves. It took time and experience, but I’ve come to find compassion for who I was, and that’s a major part of this album.”
Following the release of a covers album and a Shooter Jennings-produced record, Waldon decided to take a different approach with Every Ghost. She co-produced the album with Justin Francis and enlisted the help of her road band, The Muleskinners. The album was recorded at Southern Grooves studio in Memphis, showcasing Waldon’s desire for a more personal touch in her music creation process.
One of the standout tracks on the album is “Comanche,” a heartfelt song named after Waldon’s 1988 Jeep model. Symbolizing strength in solitude and her journey towards sobriety, Waldon uses the song to explore themes of loss and setting personal boundaries. “Comanche” not only pays homage to her love for classic car designs but dives deep into emotional territory, reflecting Waldon’s personal growth and struggles.
Another notable track on the album is “Tiger Lillies,” dedicated to Waldon’s grandmother. This heartfelt tribute adds a personal touch to the album, showing Waldon’s connection to her roots and family. Additionally, Waldon includes a cover of Hazel Dickens’ “Ramblin’ Woman” as the closing track, showcasing her respect for traditional country music and storytelling.
Waldon’s authenticity shines through in Every Ghost, with each track reflecting her journey towards healing and self-acceptance. Through her music, Waldon shares her experiences with addiction, grief, and generational trauma, inviting listeners to connect with their own emotions and personal histories. With a raw and unapologetic approach to songwriting, Waldon stays true to her Kentucky roots while delving into universal themes that resonate with audiences worldwide.
