Cavern Club to host exciting album release party in Liverpool
The iconic Cavern Club is about to mark another significant chapter in its history by hosting the official launch event for an extraordinary musical release.
Scheduled for 10th April 2025, the event will showcase a groundbreaking studio album and live concert that unites the legendary figures of Merseybeat and 60s music, coming together to re-record their most memorable hits with accompaniment from members of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
This ambitious project, initiated before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, features exceptional performances from esteemed artists such as Mike Pender from The Searchers, Ray Ennis of The Swinging Blue Jeans, Tony Crane & Billy Kinsley from The Merseybeats, Mike McCartney of The Scaffold, and the late Gerry Marsden of Gerry and The Pacemakers.
Crafted by producer Gary Murphy and engineer Alan Lewis, this album serves as a stunning homage to the golden era of Liverpool’s music scene, with orchestral arrangements breathing new vitality into some of the most cherished songs in British rock ‘n’ roll history.
Reflecting on the 60s, Gary Murphy expressed that it was a decade of significant cultural shifts and pivotal moments, with music playing a central role in defining the era. He expressed his joy in reimagining iconic hits with the original stars from the 60s, infusing these timeless tunes with fresh arrangements for a modern audience.
One particularly poignant moment during the recording sessions was Gerry Marsden’s rendition of a new track titled “On Merseyside, The Pool of Life,” penned by Gary Murphy. Serving as his final original recording, this song stands as a heartfelt tribute to his profound connection with Liverpool’s rich musical tapestry.
Included in this momentous project is a live concert recorded at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall in February 2020, featuring Gerry Marsden’s last public performance. The event, along with footage from the recording sessions, will be featured in a forthcoming documentary from LA Productions, slated for release in Spring 2025.
Jon Keats, director of the Cavern Club, lauded the project as one of the finest tributes to Merseybeat in recent years, highlighting the emotional resonance of witnessing the original artists perform these classic songs in a new light.
A screening of the documentary is set to take place at 6:00 PM in the Cavern’s Live Lounge, open to all visitors to The Cavern Club, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the making of this exceptional musical endeavor.
Available for pre-order now, the studio album, live concert recording, and Gerry Marsden’s EP promise to deliver a momentous celebration of Liverpool’s unparalleled musical legacy, unfolding in the very venue that served as a breeding ground for the sounds of a generation.
