Eric Clapton is known not only for his legendary guitar skills but also for his taste in cars, particularly his iconic Ferrari 365 GT4 Berlinetta Boxer. This rare 1975 Ferrari has now hit the auction block for a whopping £285,000, a testament to its place in rock ‘n roll history.

The Ferrari, featured on the back cover of Clapton’s 1977 album “Slowhand” where the hit song “Wonderful Tonight” can be found, has a fascinating backstory. Shortly after purchasing the car, Clapton crashed it at a staggering 90mph into a van while under the influence of alcohol, showcasing the turmoil and chaos he was facing at the time due to his struggles with substance abuse.

This particular Ferrari holds a special place in Clapton’s heart, as it was his second Ferrari. He famously crashed his first Ferrari in 1970 after his first kiss with Patty Boyd, who would later become his wife after a scandalous love triangle involving Beatles legend George Harrison. It is said that Clapton was inspired to write his timeless love song “Wonderful Tonight” based on his experiences with Boyd, adding another layer of intrigue to the car’s history.

The Ferrari eventually made its way to an eagle-eyed buyer who found an advertisement in Exchange & Mart in 1975. The new owner cherished the car so much that he kept it in his kitchen for fifty years, until his passing. The classic vehicle was lovingly restored and painted a striking red, ready to be passed on to the next lucky buyer.

With only 367 models ever built between 1973 and 1976, this Ferrari is a rare gem. Clapton’s specific car retains its original matching chassis, engine, and gearbox, making it a truly valuable collector’s item. The interior features black leather upholstery and a distinctive three-spoke steering wheel embellished with a prancing horse logo, adding to its allure as a prized possession.

The Ferrari will be up for auction at Bonhams during their Goodwood Members Meeting Auction on April 13, offering car enthusiasts and music fans alike a chance to own a piece of rock ‘n roll history. With its rich backstory and ties to one of music’s most scandalous affairs, this Ferrari is a testament to the enduring legacy of Eric Clapton and the timeless allure of classic cars.
