Newport set to host inaugural music festival this weekend
The exciting debut of Newport’s very first music festival is on the horizon, set to captivate attendees this upcoming weekend. The Newport Music Trail is gearing up to illuminate the city with melodies and rhythms on Friday, March 28, and Saturday, March 29, featuring a remarkable blend of Newport and Welsh musical talent.
Collaborating with FOCUS Wales, Newport City Council is orchestrating this groundbreaking music festival in Newport. The Newport Music Trail promises attendees a festival ambiance, with a lineup of performances scattered across various venues in the city center, allowing music enthusiasts to seamlessly transition from one captivating act to another.
Councillor Emma Corten, overseeing culture and communication matters, is brimming with enthusiasm, expressing, “We are so excited to be working with FOCUS Wales to take the first steps toward establishing what we hope will become Newport’s own annual music festival – the first in the Welsh calendar each year.” The synergy between Newport’s vibrant influx of grassroots musical talent, the array of independent venues, and the collaborative prowess of FOCUS Wales is expected to enhance Newport’s allure, particularly for avid live music savants and budding industry professionals.
The Newport Music Trail will contribute to an already engaging series of events in the month of March, including jubilant St. David’s Day festivities, thought-provoking International Women’s Day commemorations, vibrant literary happenings, and the city’s premiere Festival of Words. Having previously triumphed with the resounding success of ‘Festive Newport,’ uniting various city partners to curate an unparalleled array of Christmas activities and events, Newport City Council remains steadfast in maintaining a vibrant calendar of events throughout the year.
The Newport Music Trail is not the only musical spectacle unfolding in Newport this weekend. Let’s Rock Club Tropicana is also making its debut at the Corn Exchange on High Street on Saturday, March 29. This event, hosted by renowned personalities Pat Sharp and Andy Crane, heralds the inception of the UK’s most expansive daytime retro clubbing phenomenon, set to grace towns and cities countrywide. ‘Let’s Rock Club Tropicana’ promises an unforgettable 80s-laden dance fest, exuding high energy and nostalgia, lovingly curated by the iconic Pat Sharp.
Additionally, Tango Magic is adding to the festivities with a lively spring celebration at Nash Village Hall over the weekend. Attendees can partake in a workshop on Saturday night led by Marek and Katherine, followed by a spirited milonga dance event. The merriment continues on Sunday, March 30, with another enchanting milonga graced by DJ Alice Spencer.
