Bruce Springsteen sends kind message to actor portraying his father in upcoming biopic.
Bruce Springsteen is currently working on the set of his upcoming biopic, “Deliver Me From Nowhere,” which centers around the creation of his iconic 1982 album “Nebraska.” Stephen Graham takes on the role of Douglas “Dutch” Springsteen, Bruce’s late father. Graham recently appeared on the podcast Soundtracking with Edith Bowman and shared a heartwarming text message he received from Springsteen. Graham described it as “the most gorgeous texts I’ve ever had in my life.” The message expressed Springsteen’s gratitude, saying, “Thank you so much. You know, my father passed away a while ago and I felt like I saw him today and thank you for giving me that memory.”
The biopic, “Deliver Me From Nowhere,” is set to be released in 2025 and is based on the 2023 book of the same name by Warren Zanes. Actor Jeremy Allen White was announced in April 2024 to be playing the role of Springsteen. During the red carpet premiere of The Bear’s season three event in June 2024, White expressed his willingness to sing in the film, stating, “We’re gonna try. We’re gonna try our best.” Alongside White, Emmy Award-winning actor Jeremy Strong portrays Jon Landau, Springsteen’s longtime manager, in the film. In an interview with Deadline in January, Strong described working on the biopic as “one of the greatest working experiences I’ve ever had” and highlighted the close relationship he and White built with Springsteen and Landau, calling it “a love story in a sense between these two men.”
A significant influence on the film comes from Bruce Springsteen’s own life story, particularly the relationship he had with his father, Douglas, who passed away in 1998 at the age of 73. The dynamic between father and son plays a central role in the biopic, adding depth and emotion to the narrative. Through texts and messages like the one Graham shared, Springsteen’s involvement in the production illustrates the personal and emotional connection he has to the project. Each detail and interaction between the actors and Springsteen contribute to the authenticity and depth of the film, creating a genuine and heartfelt portrayal of his life and experiences.
With production underway and a stellar cast bringing the story to life, “Deliver Me From Nowhere” promises to be a poignant and moving exploration of Bruce Springsteen’s journey as an artist. From the heartfelt text messages exchanged between Springsteen and the actors to the depths of emotion explored in the film, this biopic is shaping up to be a heartfelt and authentic portrayal of a musical legend and the relationships that shaped him. As the release date approaches, anticipation grows for this cinematic portrayal of one of rock music’s most iconic figures.
