A.J. Pero, Drummer of Twisted Sister, Remembered 10 Years Later

March 20, 2025 marks the tenth anniversary of the passing of legendary Twisted Sister drummer A.J. Pero. Pero tragically passed away at the age of 55 in Poughkeepsie back on March 20, 2015. He was scheduled to perform with his band, Adrenaline Mob, at The Chance in Poughkeepsie on that fateful night but suffered a fatal heart attack just hours before the show. He was rushed to Vassar Brothers Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to the heart attack.

A.J. Pero was not only a talented musician but also a kind and down-to-earth individual. Those who had the pleasure of meeting him at various Twisted Sister concerts or working with him during events, such as the Biker’s for Babies March of Dimes motorcycle gatherings, remember him fondly. He was always willing to engage with fans, signing autographs, and taking pictures with everyone. His warm personality and genuine nature endeared him to many.

In 2014, A.J. Pero joined Adrenaline Mob as the drummer, stepping in for Mike Portnoy. Additionally, he was also a member of the band Four By Fate, showcasing his versatility and passion for music. Despite his untimely passing, A.J. Pero’s legacy continues to live on through his music and the memories he created with those who knew him.

Twisted Sister, the iconic rock band that Pero was a key part of, paid tribute to him with a special concert at Starland Ballroom in Sayerville, NJ, and a heartfelt show at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas in 2015. WPDH was the first commercial rock radio station in the U.S. to play Twisted Sister’s song “Under The Blade” following the band’s signing to Secret Records. This pivotal moment in the band’s career helped propel them to stardom and solidified their place in rock history.
