Staying Faithful: Paul Faith’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Revival
uld have no ‘sound’ without them. And they were (are) getting up there and baring their souls up there week after week, so it made me feel comfortable to do the same and write very personally and honestly.”
His latest project, the album OH WELL, represents a significant progression in his music career, blending rock and roll elements with the intimate energy of live performances.
“I’m incredibly proud of my new album, ‘OH WELL,'” he shares. “My first record was more of a solo endeavor, but this new one truly embodies a rock and roll sound with my band, the Barstool Prophets. The aim was to capture the essence of a live performance and make listeners feel like they are at a rock concert. Plus, I play harmonica on it quite a bit.”
From past records to the unwavering support of the local songwriting community, the album reflects the influence of those who have shaped his musical style, such as Dreux Gerard, who engineered and produced both albums.
“I also had the privilege of working with the exceptionally talented Jennie Brent, who played cello on two songs, ‘When I Come Around’ and the title track,” he reveals. “Her cello adds a beautiful touch to those tracks.”
Beyond his music, Faith is deeply involved in supporting fellow artists, a hallmark of New Orleans’ songwriting scene.
“Within the singer/songwriter scene, there is an incredible sense of support,” he notes. “The community here genuinely cares about uplifting other artists and showing up to support them. Individuals like Joshua, Rescalla, and many others host open mics and creative events solely for the joy of supporting artists. New Orleans offers a diverse range of venues that encourage original music, unlike many other places where cover songs dominate. While it may not always mean monetary gain, the sense of community for creating music together is invaluable.”
His commitment to fostering creative spaces extends to organizing a weekly songwriter night at Skeeta Hawk Brewing in Mid City, fostering camaraderie and artistic growth among fellow musicians.
“I run a songwriter night most Friday nights at Skeeta Hawk Brewing in Mid City. Attendees leave feeling encouraged, having made new friends, and possibly securing a gig,” he shares enthusiastically.
Faith’s authenticity shines through in his performances, where he pours his heart and soul into each show, regardless of the audience size.
“I am a passionate performer. Whether there are two or 200 people in the crowd, I give my all with the same intensity,” he expresses.
Looking forward, Faith anticipates an exciting season ahead with several key performances on the horizon, fueled by his deep-rooted love for New Orleans and the supportive community around him.
“We have an exciting spring and summer ahead!” he exclaims. “I have a solo show featuring other talented artists on April 3 at Okay Bar, and the full band will perform at Covington’s ‘Spring for Art 2025’ event on April 12. It promises to be a fun and engaging experience in a festival setting.”
