A declaration made by Marianne Faithfull’s son unveiled that four new tracks by the late singer will hit the airwaves this summer. Faithfull, celebrated for her 1960s hit “As Tears Go By,” passed away at the age of 78 this past January. The English singer, known for her vibrant persona during London’s Swinging ’60s, braved hardships such as homelessness, battles with drug addiction, and cancer throughout her life.

While Faithfull made headlines for her affiliation with Mick Jagger from the Rolling Stones during the era of sex, drugs, and rock and roll, she also left behind a legacy of 21 solo albums, received a Grammy nomination, and dabbled in acting for films. Over the past year, Faithfull had been working on these new songs, which trace their lineage back to her debut two albums from 1965. Originally slated to be uncovered last month, the unveiling of the EP was ultimately placed on hold due to her untimely demise, according to details from Decca Records.

In an official statement, Faithfull’s son, Nicholas Dunbar, reflected on her unwavering passion for crafting and performing music, asserting that it fueled her existence until the very end. “Marianne lived to create and perform music – it was her driving force and she never stopped,” he affirmed. “Right up until the end, she was looking forward to this release which now completes and celebrates her remarkable artistic career.”

Among the new tracks, “Burning Moonlight” takes center stage, also lending its name to the EP. This soul-stirring song draws inspiration from the opening line of Faithfull’s famous hit “As Tears Go By” and was officially unveiled to the public on Friday. The complete digital EP is scheduled for release on June 6, promising listeners an immersive experience into Faithfull’s musical world.

Post-completion of the project, Faithfull expressed sentiments of reflection and nostalgia, remarking on the significance of looking back at her journey. “It helps me to remember all the things I’ve done. I can’t say I’m a particularly nostalgic person, but I am enjoying this period of reflection,” she shared with Decca Records. With Faithfull’s music poised to resonate with fans once again, the release of these new tracks stands as a testament to her lasting legacy in the realm of music.
