Samantha Fish releases empowering new song “I’m Done Runnin'”
Samantha Fish, a musician acclaimed for her powerful guitar skills, has recently released an empowering new song titled “I’m Done Runnin’”, which will be the first track on her upcoming album Paper Doll, set to launch on April 25 through Rounder Records.
In this invigorating anthem, Fish showcases her trademark boldness and expressive style. The song begins with atmospheric riffs and is driven by her exceptional vocal range and emotional depth. The lyrics, “When I look in the mirror, staring at the unknown / The world’s not getting clearer, but I like where I’m goin’”, resonate with themes of self-assurance and resilience. Fish describes the track as a message about persevering through life’s challenges and staying true to one’s goals, even in the face of adversity.
Paper Doll as a whole reflects Fish’s journey to find her authentic voice in the studio over the years. With this album, she lays all her cards on the table, infusing each song with raw energy, heartfelt empathy, and newfound clarity. The record promises listeners a glimpse into the neo-psychedelic realms that Fish explores during her live performances, as noted by Premier Guitar, who featured her on the cover of their April 2025 issue. Throughout the album, Fish delves into themes of vulnerability, love, loss, and personal growth, all the while pushing the boundaries of her musical expression.
This album was recorded in Austin at The Orb and in Los Angeles at Savannah Studios while Fish maintained a rigorous tour schedule. This approach captured the unbridled energy of her live shows, giving the album a dynamic and vibrant pulse. Produced by Detroit rock icon Bobby Harlow (The Go) and featuring assistance from Mick Collins (The Gories) on a track, the album includes contributions from Fish’s touring bandmates: Ron Johnson on bass, Jamie Douglass on drums, and Mickey Finn on keys.
Fish, known for her unique fusion of rock and soul, her mesmerizing guitar playing, and her captivating live performances, witnessed a surge in her career with the success of her previous album, Death Wish Blues, which topped the Billboard Blues Chart in 2023 and earned her a Grammy nomination. This accomplishment led to her sharing stages with renowned artists like The Rolling Stones, Jon Spencer, and Slash.
Throughout 2025, Fish will embark on a tour across the US and the UK, including shows with Kingfish and performances at JazzFest and other notable venues. This tour promises to showcase Fish’s electrifying stage presence and musical prowess, bringing her captivating energy to audiences around the world.
