Singer Stedman Pearson, of Five Star, passes away at age 60
Stedman Pearson, a member of the iconic British pop group Five Star, passed away at the age of 60, on March 10, according to his sister Deniece Pearson. Stedman was part of the group that also included his siblings Deniece, Lorraine, Doris, and Delroy Pearson. He had been on dialysis leading up to his death.
In a statement to the PA news agency, his family described Stedman as a gentleman to the very end and an incredible son, brother, and uncle. They expressed their deep sorrow in losing him and shared that the memories and love he gave them and the world would be their greatest comfort. Stedman will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
During their career, Five Star achieved six top 10 singles in the UK charts. Some of their most popular hits include System Addict, Can’t Wait Another Minute, and Rain Or Shine. Known for their unique outfits and synchronized dance routines, they often drew comparisons to The Jackson 5 from the US. Their debut album, Luxury Of Life, was released in 1985, followed by Silk And Steel in 1986, which peaked at the top spot on the UK albums chart.
The group’s success was celebrated in 1986 when they won the award for the best British group at the Brit Awards. In the following years, from the noughties to the 2010s, they continued to perform at various festivals, including the Let’s Rock festival in Bristol in 2015, performing as a four-piece.
Stedman Pearson also showcased his talents in other areas, including ballet, as seen on The All Star Talent Show on Channel 5, where he finished third. He further exhibited his versatility by participating in the BBC Three reality show, Celebrity Scissorhands, in 2008. This show involved celebrities attempting to cut hair to raise money for BBC Children In Need. Additionally, he made an appearance on the comedy TV show, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, engaging in a segment where panelists had to identify the singer from a lineup of lookalikes.
