Former Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon recently talked about his fans’ expectations for new music in an interview with Blitzed Magazine, where he made it clear that he is not interested in recreating the past.

Speaking about how fans hold onto their perceptions of artists, Lydon emphasized the importance of staying true to oneself. He expressed his diverse musical influences that often contradict each other, highlighting that he cannot conform to others’ expectations. Lydon bluntly told fans who are waiting for a “Never Mind the Bollocks Part 2” that they should “f*ck off.” He suggested that they should broaden their musical horizons and listen to new sounds instead.

Despite fans’ constant requests for music reminiscent of the Sex Pistols’ classic style, Lydon remains resolute in his decision to move forward with new projects. He is currently extending his ‘I Could Be Wrong, I Could Be Right’ spoken word tour into 2025. During the tour, he engages in intimate conversations with fans about his experiences with the Sex Pistols, Public Image Limited (PiL), and his personal journey.

While Lydon continues to embrace new artistic endeavors, his former Sex Pistols bandmates, Steve Jones, Glen Matlock, and Paul Cook, have chosen a different path. They are touring in the UK, performing the iconic ‘Never Mind the Bollocks’ album with Frank Carter as their new frontman.

Lydon’s commitment to artistic growth is evident in his active touring schedule with Public Image Limited (PiL) throughout 2025. The band is set to perform at various events across the UK and Europe, including the Azkena Rock Festival in Spain. These performances reflect Lydon’s ongoing dedication to exploring fresh creative avenues while maintaining an unwavering stance against catering to fan demands.

John Lydon’s refusal to conform to expectations sets him apart as a pioneering artist unafraid to challenge the status quo. By rejecting the notion of repeating past successes, he continues to push boundaries and evolve creatively, captivating audiences with his forward-thinking approach to music and performance.
