New trailer for Gex Trilogy confirms summer release date
A recent trailer for Gex Trilogy has confirmed that the highly anticipated game is set to be released this summer. Although an exact release date has not been revealed yet, the latest trailer from Limited Run Games has provided a release window for the summer of 2025.
Gex Trilogy is a compilation that includes all three games from the popular Gex series of action platformers that were originally released during the PS1 era. The game will be available on multiple platforms, including PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC, and will be available in both digital and physical versions.
Limited Run Games is using their Carbon Engine, a development tool designed to create emulation-based ports of classic games for modern hardware, to bring the Gex Trilogy to players. This release will include new features such as save state and rewind options for all three games, as well as widescreen support for the second and third installments. Additionally, players can enjoy a Music Player, a Media Player featuring promotional material and artwork, and a video interview with Dana Gould, the comedian who provided the voice for Gex in the North American versions of the game.
The Gex series, developed by Crystal Dynamics, features the adventures of the anthropomorphic gecko known as Gex across three games released between 1995 and 1999. The first game, simply titled Gex, was a 2D platformer released on various platforms like the PS1, Saturn, 3DO, and PC. Players followed Gex as he navigated the Media Dimension, exploring different themed TV channels in an attempt to defeat the evil overlord Rez.
The sequel, Gex: Enter the Gecko, shifted to a 3D platform engine and was released on platforms like the PS1, N64, and PC. In this installment, Gex once again finds himself traversing through TV-based worlds inspired by children’s cartoons, sci-fi shows, and Kung Fu movies. Finally, Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko, released on the PS1 and N64, follows Gex as he returns to the Media Dimension to rescue his girlfriend, Agent Xtra, in a thrilling adventure.
