The new library is now accessible over lunchtime, providing an improved service to customers throughout the day. Apart from the internal modifications of the new building, improvements have also been made to the rear car park to enable its use as a versatile events space.

The official opening event brought together various dignitaries, including South Ayrshire Council leader Martin Dowey, provost Iain Campbell, council members, and staff from both locations. This event marked the completion of renovation works at the McKechnie Institute and the grand opening of the new Girvan Library on Wednesday, February 26.

For the past year, the McKechnie Institute had been closed to undergo renovations, primarily to install a new passenger lift on the ground floor. The addition of this lift significantly enhances the accessibility of this historic building, ensuring that visitors of all abilities can fully enjoy and benefit from the Institute’s facilities.

On the other hand, the new Girvan Library began its operations a few weeks ago after extensive renovations that involved relocating the service to its current location on Knockushan Street. The library now offers a wide array of services to its patrons, encompassing a diverse collection of digital and print books, complimentary access to public computers, free Wi-Fi, an upgraded film room, and one of Scotland’s pioneering ‘Reuse and Recycle’ Hubs where individuals can repurpose everyday items.

The extended operating hours of Girvan Library during lunchtime make its services more accessible and convenient for visitors throughout the day. Apart from internal refurbishments within the new building, improvements to the rear car park have been made to transform it into a flexible space suitable for hosting various events.

The collaboration between the Girvan Library and the McKechnie Institute culminated in a successful grand opening event that welcomed distinguished guests. The presence of influential figures like South Ayrshire Council leader Martin Dowey, provost Iain Campbell, council members, and dedicated staff highlighted the significance of these community spaces in providing valuable resources and services to the public.
