Edinburgh duo No Windows has exciting news for fans as they announce the release of their new EP, ‘The Great Traitor,’ along with a fresh single titled ‘Return’. Following the success of their 2024 EP ‘Point Nemo,’ which included a bustling EU/UK tour and spots at The Great Escape’s ‘First Fifty’ and supporting Slow Pulp, the talented multi-instrumentalist Morgan Morris and lyricist Verity Slangen are back with more captivating music.

Their unique blend of classic pop and folk has won them accolades, including the Sound of Young Scotland Award at the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Awards in 2023. Despite their young age, signing to Fat Possum records at 18 and 19 after just one self-released EP (Fishboy) speaks to their immense talent and potential. ‘The Great Traitor’ EP sees them delving into lush, psychedelic soundscapes inspired by 70s chamber pop icons like George Harrison and Leonard Cohen, as well as film composer Jon Brion.

Working with producer Ali Chant (known for work with Dry Cleaning, Sorry, Yard Act), the duo stepped out of Morgan’s DIY bedroom studio into a professional setting where they could explore a wider range of instruments and sounds across the EP’s six tracks. The lead single, ‘Return,’ is a nostalgic mix of 90s alt-rock and indie, featuring Verity’s introspective lyrics reflecting on her experiences with autism as a teenager. The track transitions beautifully from dark and dissonant to light and delicate, mirroring a journey from uncertainty to empowerment.

Verity’s fiery vocals carry a raw emotion in ‘Return,’ capturing the angst and growth that comes with self-discovery and acceptance. The accompanying music video, directed by CLUMP Collective, enhances the song’s themes with a tense, atmospheric narrative set in a cabin in the woods. As the duo searches frantically for something intangible, a powerful connection emerges, adding layers of meaning to the visual storytelling.

Fans can catch No Windows live at various upcoming dates, including performances at Les In Rock Festival, Dark Arts Festival in Leeds, and supporting The Vaselines at Oslo, London. The duo’s captivating sound and introspective lyrics make them a must-watch act in the indie music scene.
