New Single and Music Video ‘Beyond The Dark Horizon’ Released by GRIMA
Siberian atmospheric black metal band GRIMA is gearing up to release their sixth studio album, “Nightside,” via Napalm Records on February 28, 2025. Just days before the album’s release, GRIMA has unveiled their latest single and music video, titled “Beyond the Dark Horizon.” The band paints a vivid, melancholic picture of a world shrouded in twilight, where sorrow seems to stretch endlessly beyond the horizon, much like a powerful black river carving its path through the kingdom of shadows. The track’s haunting melody captures the inevitable march of time, transporting listeners through eerie landscapes where destiny is intertwined with darkness, making it a perfect soundtrack for nightmares.
Having recently performed at various shows across Europe, including alongside rising German death metal act KANONENFIEBER, GRIMA draws inspiration from the spirit of the Siberian Forest, Taiga, for their upcoming album, “Nightside.” In addition to their distinctive sound, the band’s appearance, characterized by towering figures adorned with chilling carved wooden masks and elongated fingers reminiscent of tree branches, adds an extra layer of eerie allure to their music.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the new single “Beyond the Dark Horizon,” GRIMA delves into the icy waters of the mighty Yenisei river, which flows through their hometown of Krasnoyarsk. Despite the bitter cold of -40°C, the river remains unfrozen, symbolizing an untamed force that inexorably flows beyond the horizon, veiled in darkness. Each day, it fills an endless abyss, its frigid waves washing over the shores, leaving those nearby with a perpetual yearning for warmth that may never come, drowning hope in its depths as an unseen fate lurks beyond the black horizon.
Pushing boundaries within the black metal genre, GRIMA introduces death metal-like growls on tracks such as “Impending Death Premonition,” showcasing focused effort and skill on the album’s shorter, more accessible offerings. Both “Beyond the Dark Horizon” and “Curse of the Void” maintain the dreamy and intricate qualities of their longer tracks while delivering the satisfaction of more straightforward black metal anthems. Responsible for the mixing, mastering, and overall sound of “Nightside” is experienced black metal producer Vladimir Lehtinen. GRIMA’s visionary sound is brought to life by the dynamic interplay between band members Vilhelm and Morbius, who contribute impactful guitar riffs, leads, and melodies, with Vilhelm also lending his voice as the embodiment of the woods.
