This year is already looking to be a big one for Billy Idol as the rock legend was nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 25. But, Idol just kicked it up a notch and shared a brand new single, “Still Dancing,” which previews his forthcoming new album Dream Into It.

In “Still Dancing,” Idol reflects on his past while looking towards the future. In a statement, he explained of his new song, “‘Still Dancing’ is really a reflection of my whole journey. From the punk rock period through to now. And I’m still looking towards the future, still living the life I set out to live. At the start of the song I’m recalling the early times in London, when I was living in squats or at friends’ apartments, all my belongings in a plastic bag. Everybody at home or work told you what you were doing was never going to happen. But Punk Rock gave me an opening. I was surrounded by people who loved the music as deeply as I did and you were going to throw caution to the wind, believe in what you were doing and grab on for dear life. As the song says, there have been many moments along the way where I’ve been self-destructive. But what’s seen me through is that unflinching belief in the music started all those years ago. That’s been the greatest gift of all.”

Dream Into It is Idol’s ninth full-length album following 2014’s Kings & Queens of the Underground, and showcases nine autobiographical new songs including guest appearances from Avril Lavigne, Alison Mosshart and Joan Jett. See the full track listing below.

“Dream Into It is definitely meant to be listened to in order,” Billy says of the new album. “You don’t have to, of course. I mean, people are going to pick their favorite tracks and all that. But we did deliberately make this record this way, and in this sequence. We really thought ‘album,’ completely. We are kicking it off with ‘Dream Into It’ and we’re bookending it with ‘Still Dancing,’ and both are talking about the same thing, kind of an overview of my life. In between, we talk about where I’ve been, where I am and where I’m going.”

Along with the new album, also comes a documentary, of which Bill explained, “We’ve been working on a documentary about my life, and at age 69, you start being able to look back across the landscape of your life and really see it; you’ve never been in this vantage point. Even when I wrote my book, I was 50-something. When we started to write the songs for the album, I dug into different aspects of my life, different time periods – the punk rock period, or me going solo or me going to America, and so on. It was almost like I’m making the music that goes along with the themes in documentary, but that wasn’t the intention when we started writing.”
