In their latest release, BERRIES unveiled the music video for their catchy power-pop track “Narrow Tracks” from their second album, also titled ‘BERRIES’, which debuted last fall. The video creatively blends live band footage with scenes of vocalist Holly Carter engaging in various activities like dismantling jigsaw puzzles, devouring books in reverse, and walking cautiously on the pavement as if on a tightrope, all mirroring the uncertainties and hesitations expressed in the song’s lyrical content. The visual elements are intriguingly manipulated with certain scenes playing in reverse or at altered speeds, adding a surreal touch to the overall presentation.

Throughout the video, the band members croon the lyrics, “Doubts tingle with the facts, like passing trains on narrow tracks,” as glimpses of their performance at a BBC Introducing session flash across the screen. The visual presentation doubles as a lyric video, incorporating handwritten-style text overlays on each frame to emphasize the song’s message. Explaining the inspiration behind the track, the band sheds light on the theme of grappling with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and the persistent internal struggle depicted in the song. They convey a message of resilience and the inner strength required to combat intrusive thoughts and doubts, urging listeners to fight back against such mental challenges.

In addition to their recent video release, BERRIES are gearing up for a series of live performances in honor of International Women’s Day in March. The tour will kick off at Bodega in Nottingham on March 5th, followed by shows in Birkenhead and London shortly after. The trio, consisting of members Holly Carter, Lauren Cooper, and Lexi Clark, partnered with acclaimed production luminary Adrian Bushby (known for his work with Foo Fighters and Muse) for the mixing process of their latest album, injecting a new energy and dynamism into the songs featured on ‘BERRIES’.

The band’s second album delves into a diverse sonic landscape, ranging from Riot Grrrl-inspired dissonance and robust grunge-rock anthems suited for large venues to forays into math-rock experimentation, post-rock influences, power-pop sensibilities, and softer acoustic moments. From the blistering intensity of tracks like “Barricade” to the ethereal post-rock nuances of the closer “Crumpled Clothes” and the infectious energy of “Narrow Tracks,” the album showcases BERRIES’ versatility and evolution as artists stretching beyond their comfort zones for creative growth.

Reflecting on the album-making process, the band expresses pride in their collective efforts and the musical tapestry they have woven with Bushby’s expertise. Drawing on themes of mental health struggles, overcoming obstacles, and the power of music to convey poignant messages, BERRIES’ music resonates with audiences seeking authenticity and depth in their musical experiences. With a history of electrifying live shows and critical acclaim for their debut album ‘How We Function’, BERRIES continue to captivate listeners with their raw energy and meaningful songwriting, solidifying their position as rising stars in the alternative music scene.
