This event marks a significant milestone as the theater celebrates 33 years in the dance industry. The production will feature two new dance pieces in a continuous dance event, showcasing the talents of three outstanding dancers performing four solos by Merce Cunningham, accompanied by music from acclaimed composer John King.

The performance will begin with a rendition of four solos by Merce Cunningham, including Changeling (1957), Solo (1975), and excerpts from RainForest (1968) and Travelogue (1977). These solos will be accompanied by music arranged in collaboration with the Merce Cunningham Trust, adding depth and complexity to the stunning visual showcase. Dancers Morgan Amirah Burns, François Malbranque, and Boris Charrion will take the stage for a total of 20 minutes, setting the tone for an exhilarating night of dance.

‘Begin Anywhere’ is a collaboration between choreographer John Scott and composer Mel Mercier, who draw inspiration from the works of legendary American artists such as Merce Cunningham and John Cage. The performance seamlessly weaves together the talents of six exceptional dancers from across the globe, each bringing a unique perspective to the stage. These dancers will be joined by four of Ireland’s top contemporary-trad musicians, creating a dynamic and electrifying atmosphere that pays homage to the creative vision of Cunningham and Cage.

John Scott, the Creative Director of Irish Modern Dance Theatre, expressed his excitement about bringing ‘Begin Anywhere’ to audiences in Ireland after its successful premiere in New York. He describes the production as a culmination of years of hard work and dedication, incorporating elements of Irish dancing formations and virtuosic ensemble dancing.
