Maná makes history as first Spanish-language rock band nominated for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
The prominent music group, Maná, has solidified its legacy as one of the most celebrated and influential Latin American rock bands. Renowned for a repertoire of hits like “Mariposa Traicionera,” “Oye Mi Amor,” and “Labios Compartidos,” the band has amassed a devoted following that spans numerous generations during their impressive career. A significant milestone has now been reached as Maná has received a nomination for induction into the prestigious Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. They are the first Spanish-speaking band to be nominated for this distinction.
On February 12, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame revealed the list of this year’s nominees, featuring Maná among the 14 artists vying for induction into the hallowed hall. While iconic Latin musicians such as Santana, Joan Baez, Ritchie Valens, and Linda Ronstadt have previously received this honor, Maná stands out as the first Spanish-language band and the inaugural group formed in Latin America to be considered for this recognition. Consisting of vocalist José Fernando “Fher” Olvera, bassist Juan Calleros, drummer Alex González, and guitarist Sergio Vallín, Maná emerged in 1986 in Guadalajara, Mexico, crafting a path as one of the most commercially successful Latin rock bands in history.

Noteworthy achievements have punctuated Maná’s career, including breaking records with their “Rayando El Sol” tour by performing seven sold-out shows at the Forum in Los Angeles, surpassing notable artists like Kanye West and The Eagles. Their albums have consistently charted success, with multiple Grammy Awards, Latin Grammy Awards, and Billboard Latin Music Awards to their credit. As prolific chart-toppers, they have cemented their status as the best-selling Latin American rock band, with an impressive record of approximately 40 million records sold worldwide.
As the selection for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction class is determined by a diverse panel comprising musicians, industry insiders, and historians, supporters are encouraged to participate in an online poll that can influence the final inductees.
