YB, a band celebrating its 30th anniversary, has ventured into the realm of metal music with a new mini-album titled “Odyssey.” The group, consisting of Yoon Do-hyun, Park Tae-hee, Kim Jin-won, and Heo Jun, hosted a showcase at Hongik University’s Rolling Hall in Seoul’s Mapo-gu to mark the release of their latest album.

Originating in 1996, YB has solidified its position as Korea’s foremost rock band, amassing a loyal following through iconic hits like “The Blue Whale,” “I Must Have Loved You,” “I’ll Forget,” “Tobacco Shop Lady,” and “Love Too.” Reflecting on the band’s three-decade journey, Yoon Do-hyun expressed his incredulity at the passage of time, noting, “I never envisioned this lasting three decades, but here we are. We are gearing up for a remarkable year, planning to embark on a comprehensive tour and deliver our best album.”

The group’s latest release, “Odyssey,” delves into the hybrid modern metal genre, narrating a tale of an individual transcending external constraints and inner turmoil to discover courage, hope, and ultimately, genuine liberation. Yoon Do-hyun elaborated on their departure into metal music, revealing, “Despite losing interest in classical metal early on, I rediscovered my passion for the genre when a sub-genre emerged. Listening to metal tracks helped me navigate challenges like COVID-19 and cancer, so I decided to pursue this project collaboratively with the band.”

The album consists of six tracks, including the title song “Orchid” and the pre-released track “Rebellion,” along with “Voyeurist,” “Stormborn,” “End And End,” and “Daydream.” Yoon Do-hyun discussed the collaboration with X-Dinner Heroes on the song “Rebellion,” expressing satisfaction at working with the band and creating an enjoyable performance piece.

Kim Jin-won added insights into the album’s production process, highlighting nearly two years of meticulous work that culminated in a satisfying outcome. Park Tae-hee likened the album to a vessel exploring new realms of metal music, signifying an exciting new musical phase for YB.

In a symbolic gesture, the band’s Rolling Hall performance is set to signify their metal-infused musical voyage, a journey shaped by Yoon Do-hyun’s lifelong metal dreams. With a robust tracklist and innovative sound, “Odyssey” is poised to captivate audiences upon its launch later this month.
