Friends from a Waterford secondary school release a new song on Valentine’s Day
Waterford secondary school friends decided to mark Valentine’s Day in a unique way by releasing a brand new single. The song, titled ‘Love & Repeat,’ is not just any ordinary song but a groovy and uplifting tune that celebrates the concept of eternal love.
The driving force behind this musical endeavor is local artist De Búrca, who collaborated with the band ‘The Sprokets’ to bring their vision to life. Interestingly, the foundation of this catchy tune was laid during their final year of secondary school in 2024. Singer-songwriter Leanna de Búrca initially developed the idea for ‘Love & Repeat’ at a songwriting camp hosted by Music Generation Ireland in 2023.
What makes this single truly special is the added layer of friendship and empowerment brought by Leanna’s secondary school buddies. Their contributions to the song emphasize the importance of genuine connections and the value of maintaining a positive outlook on life, making ‘Love & Repeat’ more than just a musical piece.
At the forefront of this creative project is Leanna de Búrca, a talented and dynamic 19-year-old from Tramore, Co Waterford. From a young age, she has been a significant presence in the Waterford music scene and currently pursues her studies at BIMM Dublin while continuing to make waves in the capital’s music scene. On the other hand, ‘The Sprokets’ draw inspiration from an eclectic mix of artists such as Sinéad O’Connor, Thin Lizzy, Toucan, CMAT, and Jamiroquai.
Although the band members are now focusing on their college education, with some even travelling to different parts of the country and abroad, De Búrca remains active in performing with her peers at BIMM. Known for their electrifying live performances, De Búrca and her band deliver an unforgettable experience, blending infectious singles with funkified pop and rock beats guaranteed to get any audience up and moving.
‘Love & Repeat’ serves as a heartfelt tribute to Waterford and its welcoming spirit, which served as the starting point for De Búrca’s musical journey.
