Eddie Vedder, Jack White and Others Rock ‘SNL50 Homecoming Concert’
The latest SNL50 Homecoming Concert was held at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall and was streamed live on Peacock in a spectacular evening of rock music. The highlight of the concert was the unexpected Nirvana reunion, with Post Malone skillfully embodying the essence of the late Kurt Cobain and performing “Smells Like Teen Spirit” alongside Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear.
Eddie Vedder, another notable name in the grunge scene, paid homage to Tom Petty with his rendition of “The Waiting” and honored past SNL cast members Gilda Radner and John Belushi. His set included a nod to an infamous moment in SNL history when Elvis Costello snubbed “Less Than Zero” during a 1977 performance, transitioning seamlessly into Pearl Jam’s “Corduroy.” Vedder later made a surprise appearance during Andy Samberg’s Lonely Island medley, lending his vocals to Michael Bolton’s part on “Jack Sparrow.”
The concert featured a diverse lineup of artists, each bringing their unique sound to the stage. Jack White closed the evening with powerful performances of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World” and The White Stripes’ iconic hit “Seven Nation Army.” Other standout moments included Arcade Fire performing “Wake Up” with St. Vincent and David Byrne, enthralling the audience with a cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes.” Byrne returned to perform alongside Robyn, showcasing “Dancing on My Own” and Talking Heads’ classic “This Must Be the Place.”
Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard joined Miley Cyrus for a spirited rendition of Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” adding a touch of rock ‘n roll flair to the evening. Mumford & Sons offered a heartfelt rendition of their hit “I Will Wait” and covered Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Boxer,” captivating the audience with their signature folk sound. Bonnie Raitt brought her soulful style to the stage with “Thing Called Love” before being joined by Coldplay’s Chris Martin for a moving performance of “I Can’t Make You Love Me.”
Devo provided an electrifying performance of their song “Uncontrollable Urge,” with Fred Armisen showcasing his drumming skills. The diverse lineup of artists and stellar performances made the SNL50 Homecoming Concert a night to remember, celebrating the rich history of music on the iconic SNL stage. The event showcased the incredible talent and passion of these artists and paid tribute to the timeless classics that have shaped the landscape of rock music.
