Philly’s music scene is buzzing this week with a diverse range of performances for music aficionados to enjoy. From a 100-year-old saxophonist releasing his first solo album to a highly anticipated new music documentary from Questlove, there’s something for everyone in Montgomery County.
At the forefront is the release of Marshall Allen’s solo album, “New Dawn,” at the remarkable age of 100. As the leader of the Sun Ra Arkestra, Allen’s debut album is a beautiful exploration of free jazz recorded at Rittenhouse Soundworks in Germantown. The album features a touching jazz balladry track with vocals from Swedish singer Neneh Cherry, showcasing Allen’s timeless talent and creativity.
Meanwhile, the Lumineers are celebrating the 20th anniversary of WXPN-FM’s Free at Noon with a special performance at World Cafe Live. The folk duo Native Harrow, known for blending Laurel Canyon vibes with British folk, will also be performing in support of their latest album, “Divided Kind.” Additionally, audiences can look forward to the soulful sounds of Black Buttafly and their hit song “Everybody Needs Love” at World Cafe Live.

Scrappy Alabama songwriter, Early James, will also be taking the stage at MilkBoy Philly, showcasing songs from his latest album, “Medium Raw.”
For fans of soulful indie sounds, Washington D.C.’s own Oh He Dead will be captivating audiences at Arden Gild Hall with their powerful new album “Ugly.” With mesmerizing vocals and soulful melodies, the band is sure to leave a lasting impression. Panda Bear, the Baltimore-raised electronic musician and songwriter, will be gracing Franklin Music Hall with his experimental pop sounds, while chillwave star Toro Y Moi will open the show.
Finger-style guitarist extraordinaire, Yasmin Williams, known for her unique blend of guitar heroics, will be showcasing her talents at 118 North in Wayne. Her innovative approach to music, incorporating kora, banjo, and bass, has garnered critical acclaim and promises a captivating performance. Scottish synth-pop sensation, Chvrches, will also be making a solo appearance at Union Transfer, showcasing her evolution into mainstream pop.
