Today marks the release of The Velveteers’ latest album, “A Million Knives,” through Easy Eye Sound. The Colorado trio, comprised of powerhouse frontwoman Demi Demitro on vocals and baritone guitar, along with dual drummers Baby Pottersmith and Jonny Fig on a shared kit, delves into a rock ‘n’ roll landscape that embraces non-binary, queer, and female-led expressions. This 13-track collection was born from the band’s experiences on the road, reflecting themes of feeling exploited and frustrated amidst vulnerability. Seeking to navigate an often unkind system, The Velveteers have crafted a record that courageously examines the hidden costs of such survival.

The Valentine’s Day release of “A Million Knives” tactfully explores the diverse manifestations of heartbreak, providing listeners with a cathartic journey through its soundscapes. Demitro, who has been hailed as one of rock ‘n’ roll’s most thrilling frontpeople, draws inspiration from personal encounters with yearning for acceptance and love, despite the profound loneliness found in the pursuit of success. Leading with the track “Take It From The Top,” The Velveteers offer a poignant narrative of an individual craving approval but facing solitude in their endeavors.

Anticipating the album’s arrival, the band released a couple of singles. “On And On” serves as a vehement protest against the prevalent misogyny riddling the music industry, earning recognition as a “Song You Need To Know” by Rolling Stone. Following this, “Bound In Leather” provides a message of transcending one’s limitations, garnering a coveted spot on the cover of the New Music Daily playlist curated by Zane Lowe on Apple Music. Collaborating with multi-GRAMMY-winning producer Dan Auerbach, frontman of The Black Keys, The Velveteers inject their high-octane spirit and Led Zeppelin-esque ’70s psychedelia sound into “A Million Knives.” The album’s lead single, “Go Fly Away,” which features a collaboration with Auerbach and Patrick Carney, marks a historic moment as The Black Keys produced for another artist for the first time.

The Velveteers are set to embark on a tour across the Western U.S., commencing with a sold-out album release party in Denver. Having graced the stage alongside heavyweights like Smashing Pumpkins and Guns N’ Roses following their 2021 debut album “Nightmare Daydream,” the band is primed to captivate audiences with their electrifying performances.
