Ezra Furman has disclosed details regarding her upcoming album, “Goodbye Small Head,” which will mark her 10th studio release and is scheduled to be launched on May 16 via Bella Union. The announcement also includes the debut single from the album, titled “Grand Mal,” and a North American tour that will see her perform in Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto in the near future.

The album’s title pays tribute to Sleater-Kinney’s 1999 song “Get Up” and serves as a follow-up to her 2022 record, “All of Us Flames.” Recorded in Chicago with producer Brian Deck, Furman describes the upcoming album as an orchestral emo prog-rock creation with a sprinkling of samples, humorously mentioning in press notes that she is grateful for not being a music journalist.

The first track on the album, “Grand Mal,” features lush orchestration and gets its name from an outdated term used to describe a severe seizure. A music video for the song directed by Eleanor Petry has been released online, along with the complete tracklist for the album and Furman’s comprehensive list of tour dates across North America.

The North American tour will kick off in July, with stops planned in various cities, including Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, and New York, where the tour will conclude in October. Fans can secure tickets for these performances beginning tomorrow, February 14, at 10 a.m. local time.
