Ryan Hurd discusses new beginnings in London and latest song ‘Die For It’
GRAMMY-nominated musician, Ryan Hurd, is gearing up to release his second album, ‘Midwest Rock & Roll,’ on March 21 through Big Machine Records. The album, consisting of 12 tracks all penned by Hurd, is a heartfelt homage to his Midwestern upbringing while delving into the emotional odyssey of leaving home to chase a dream.
“Midwest Rock & Roll is my second full-length album, and I am really proud of how it sounds, what it says, and how it ended up being released,” Hurd expressed. “It’s a coming-of-age album that feels like playing in your first band.” Concurrently with the album reveal, Hurd has dropped a new single titled ‘Die For It’, a poignant and self-reflective track that navigates the intricacies of love. Crafted in collaboration with Mark Holman and Randy Montana, the song encapsulates the highs and lows of a relationship, underscoring the profound commitment required to genuinely love someone through thick and thin. We recently serenaded Ryan during an acoustic showcase in London as he prepped for the imminent release of ‘Midwest Rock & Roll.’
Greeting Ryan amidst a chilly London day, we inquired about his take on the UK weather, jet lag, and his viewing preferences between the Super Bowl and hockey. Ryan shared his jet lag coping strategy of staying awake until bedtime in the local time zone, expressed surprise at the seven-year hiatus from performing in the UK, and acknowledged the country’s growing affinity for Country music. Reflecting on the evolving sound of his upcoming album, Hurd noted a slightly edgier, rock-infused Midwest vibe present in his new tracks like ‘Die For It’ and ‘Midwest Rock & Roll,’ deviating from his debut album ‘Pelago.’
Excited about the opportunity to reconnect with European audiences, Hurd is eager to introduce his fresh sound, which while still rooted in his musical identity, ventures into more robust sonic territory. The evolving landscape of Country music, with artists exploring rock influences, presents a promising platform for Hurd’s upcoming release. As his tour schedule gradually picks up post-pandemic disruptions, Hurd remains optimistic about making more frequent stops in the UK and the receptive environment for his new music.
Embracing the evolving facets of his artistry and the newfound resonance with global audiences, Ryan Hurd’s forthcoming album ‘Midwest Rock & Roll’ signals a new chapter in his musical journey, blending heartfelt narratives with a rock-imbued sound that echoes the spirit of his Midwestern roots.
