Check out two brand new videos by Heartwells!
Heartwells, a punk band from Los Angeles, has recently unveiled two new music videos for their songs “Death of Rock N Roll” and “Lovely Day In Hell.” These tracks are part of their latest album, The New Old School, released in 2024. The video for “Death of Rock N Roll” features tour footage, while the one for “Lovely Day in Hell” was directed by Ray Loy and edited by lead vocalist and guitarist JT.
JT shared the inspiration behind these songs in an interview with Punknews. Regarding “Death of Rock n Roll,” JT described it as a tribute to ’90s punk, drawing influence from bands like NOFX and Bad Religion. He mentioned including Bad Religion lyrics in the last chorus as a nod to Sublime. The song reflects friends moving away from punk culture and the declining interest in live music and rock and roll among the youth, hence the title. The video showcases a compilation of shows from 2024, with Paul Miner providing the voice for the Pink Floyd quote at the end.
On the other hand, “Lovely Day in Hell” explores the theme of losing friends to substance abuse. JT shared personal experiences of losing friends to heroin overdoses, emphasizing his gratitude for avoiding the pitfalls of hard drugs. During live performances, he alters the last line to caution against the dangers of substances like Fentanyl that are prevalent today. The video for this track was shot in a friend’s backyard in a single take, with Bert from Upper Downer adding an element of fun by pouring beer over JT’s head.
In addition to the new music videos, Heartwells celebrates the launch of HEY!FEVER Records, a new label founded by JT and bassist David Marino. The label has a lineup of releases for this year, featuring works from Empired, Stoke Signals, and Upper Downer. Meanwhile, Heartwells is busy working on their upcoming EP, scheduled for release this summer.
