1 person killed, several injured as Vince Neil’s private plane skids off runway in Scottsdale

A tragic incident occurred at Scottsdale Municipal Airport involving a Learjet 35A owned by rock star Vince Neil. The aircraft veered off the runway during landing and collided with a Gulfstream G-200 business jet, leading to one fatality and multiple injuries. It was reported that Neil was not present on the plane at the time of the crash.

Initial investigations by airport officials suggested that the left main landing gear of Neil’s Learjet failed upon landing, causing the collision with the parked business jet. Fire crews responded to the scene and found one person deceased inside the aircraft, unable to be extricated until later that night.

Mötley Crüe, Neil’s band, initially posted on Facebook confirming the pilot’s death onboard the Learjet and injuries sustained by Neil’s girlfriend, her friend, and the co-pilot. The post was later amended to reflect a statement from Neil’s representative, expressing condolences to the affected families and gratitude towards first responders.

Bret Michaels, a friend of Neil and lead singer of Poison, also offered his sympathies on social media, highlighting that Neil was not onboard during the incident. Additionally, the owner of the Gulfstream jet involved in the collision expressed condolences to the affected families and committed to cooperate with authorities in the investigation.

Despite the tragic outcome, one person on the Gulfstream plane reportedly refused treatment for injuries. The aircraft owner, Jet Pros, emphasized their collaboration with airport authorities and pledged to provide updates as more information became available.

Upon arriving at the crash site, firefighters detected the smell of gas, prompting the deployment of hazmat units to secure the surrounding buildings. The Learjet, registered to Chromed in Hollywood, Wyoming, indicated a flight route from Austin, Texas before the accident.

The closure of Scottsdale Airport persisted for several hours following the incident, with operations resuming later in the evening after comprehensive safety checks. Scottsdale Mayor, Lisa Borowsky, expressed condolences to the affected parties and commended the swift response of first responders in managing the situation.

Investigations into the crash are ongoing, with the National Transportation Safety Board taking charge of the inquiries. NTSB investigators were present at the site, with additional personnel expected to join the investigation in the following days to determine the circumstances leading up to the tragic incident.
